Technology is amazing. It changes our life. Nowadays, VR( short for virtual reality) is very popular. Many companies entered this filed and get interesting results. Some companies developed VR devices, such as Samsung GEAR VR, Google Cardborad, Microsoft HoloLens, Sony PS VR, etc. Some companies developed VR games. There are thousands of VR games, but VR devices are few. Many people choose Oculus Rift has their VR headsets. Since Oculus Rift has been acquired by Facebook from 2014, it becomes more famous.
Oculus Rift’s games attracted many people, such as Edge of Nowhere, Chronos, EVE：Valkyrie, Subnautica, The Assembly, AirMech: Command, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, The Climb, Damaged Core, Elite: Dangerous, Lucky’s Tale and so on.
Facebook Oculus Rift also has some work and life apps, but unluckily, they have no backup app to backup game state and other Oculus Rift data.
Maybe you can backup Oculus Rift data on the Windows with a PC backup software. But a professional Windows backup software does not meaning professional Oculus Rift backup software. In 2016, things changed. AOMEI company developed a tool called vrBackupper, which is designed especial for Oculus Rift VR data.
vrBackupper backup Oculus data has two selections:
- Backup Oculus installtation directory, it means the whole directory.
- Only backup games and apps in Oculus installation directory, this is selective backup.
No matter choose which one, vrBackupper will detect source location automatically. You need to do is to browser a destination location. When it comes to restore, you can restore Oculus Rift data on another computer because of AOMEI’s universal restore technology. Thus, if you change a computer, you don’t need to re-download and re-install Oculus Rift apps.
vrBackupper has another key function is migration. As Oculus Rift users know, Oculus Rift installation directory is in system partition originally. Apps and data made by apps are in the directory too. With time goes by, partition C will be full very soon. However, it is possible to transfer the installation directory to another place to solve the question of low disk space.
Traditionally, you can try mklink way: Open “Command Promote (Admin)” and type in mklink commands. Obviously, this method is difficult for common users. Fortunately, vrBackupper is able to migrate Oculus installation directory to another location easily without data loss. I think this is because AOMEI already has migrate OS to SSD technology on partition software(AOMEI Partition Assistant), so as VR software. vrBackupper has detected source location too, new location can even be external disk on this computer.
vrBackupper’s only shortcoming is supporting Windows 10 64 bit only, that’s why I mentioned Oculus Mover in the title. Oculus Mover makes up the limitation, which supports Windows 10, Windows 8.1/8 and Windows 7 (32/64 bit). AOMEI released this software in 2017. Usage of Oculus Mover is the same as vrBackupper, I will ignore it here.
Two years, two products, AOMEI makes Oculus Rift experience better. Both vrBackupper and Oculus Mover are freeware, hope you could try them to optimize your Oculus Rift data as soon as possible.
