There is evidence of the imminent release of the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B, which is equipped with SoC Broadcom BCM2836 with quad-core CPU Cortex A7 (ARMv7, 900MHz) and 1 GB of RAM, while the previous model B+ supplied with a single-core Broadcom BCM2835 (ARM11, 700 MHz) and 512MB of RAM.
The Pi 2 will sell at the same price – $35. It is expected that the device will be available in the next few hours. In the factory, Sony in the UK has produced the first batch of 100 thousand units.
The performance of the new board ahead of the current model of B + six times during testing SysBench package and three times when testing web-browser in the SunSpider package .
Acceleration is achieved not only by increasing the number of processor cores, but also due to the transition to a more modern architecture ARMv7, increasing the cache and overall modernization of the chip.
The demonstrated performance levels opens new horizons for Raspberry Pi board. For example, the new board can be used as a complete miniature PC and to meet the challenges of computer vision (detection, tracking and classification of objects in images and video).
The dimensions, connectors and arrangement of elements Raspberry Pi board 2 is completely analogous to the previously produced models (below on the first image – Raspberry Pi 2 B, on the second image – Raspberry Pi B +).
Similar to the B + the new model comes with a full size HDMI portI, 10/100 Ethernet, micro USB, Micro SD, 4x USB, ports DSI and CSI.
